Tricky : It is not the depth of pectus excavatum that determines surgery in many cases but the extent of restriction and respiratory failure that it causes. You may need a full pulmonary function test , six minute walk test and arterial blood gases to assess severity. Please discuss with you pcp/pulmonologist.
