TWO APPROACHES: Best approach is prevention, and both prescription and otc items can help. At onset of headaches, a triptan works best, and several choices available, but ergotamine or cambria can be used later in the headache if the triptan fails. Would generally avoid narcotics, as they may cause rebound and tolerance. See a headache specialist.

Migraine: There are two kinds of therapies: abortive- design to alleviate the pain during an attack and preventive- designed to reduce frequency and intensity of migraine. They are usually triggered by inadequate diet, poor sleep, stress or certain medications. Check with your doctor to find our what could be your best medication as it may vary for person to person based on their history.
