I'm a diabetic, my toe nail has split down the centre and is hurting. it is also dry and irritable. what can i do?

Split: I am concerned that you have diabetes, the split and your pain. Nail trauma can generally come in 2 forms. Microscopic trauma (hardly noticeable) and macro trauma (you know when that happens right away). Diabetes alone can cause nail deformity and changes to the nail color. Because there is pain, there could also be a bone spur under the nail contributing to your pain. Foot/nail evaluation needed.

See a Podiatrist: Nail split and hurting-may be early infection, see a podiatrist as soon as possible. When you call to make the appointment identify yourself a diabetic so you can get in sooner.
