Thrombophlebitis: Sounds like it's thrombophlebitis, an inflammation of a vein with an associated blood clot. This is not typically dangerous, so there's not much to worry about. It will also go away on its own, somewhere between 7-10 days, but sometimes a few weeks. Take over the counter pain medicines and use a warm towel to help with symptoms. See your primary care doc.

Heat and NSAIDS: If you have a clotted hand vein (thrombosed), the best local treatment would be heat to the area and nasids orally. More importantly, is why did this occur and is it really a vein? This is an unusual area for a vein to become clotted. You should be evaluated by a physician or a vein specialist.
