Prolactin elevations: Prolactin is a hormone released by pituitary gland. It stimulates breast development & milk production. Prolactin elevation can be caused by: chest wall trauma, hypothalamic disease, hypothyroidism, kidney disease, pituitary tumor (prolactinoma), other diseases, and a whole list of medications. Mri is needed to r/o pituitary tumor which can press on optic nerve and cause loss of vision.
