Find a doc.: Unfortunately asthma can be a very serious disease. Patients who have shortness of breath, cough, or chest tightness more than a few times per week really need to be on medications that suppress the inflammation in the lungs. These are very safe medications with minimal side effects. People who rarely have symptoms can get away with a simple "rescue inhaler" that opens the airways briefly.
