Keeps under control: Apart from acute infections, surgical problems, and the handful of cancers that can be cured with chemotherapy or radiation, medicine is all about controlling and managing disease rather than curing it. Surely you would not refuse to take a painkiller for a broken bone because the bone will still be broken tomorrow, or deny the value of Insulin that keeps a diabetic alive today.
