CTS = Mononeuropathy: Cts refers to the condition brought on by compression of the median nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel (compressive focal mono-neuropathy). The term neuropathy is a general term referring to various conditions and multiple etiologies. Cts is a form of a neuropathy, but not the only neuropathy that can affect the median nerve.

Separate issues: In terms of most common definitions, but carpal tunnel is often referred to as median mononeuropathy. ( just to confuse you) neuropathy refers to a pathological process within nerve tissue, carpal tunnel is one type of neuropathy but most physicians and health care workers use the terms to mean different things. Neuropathy commonly, (colloquially) is used to describe non compressive nerve problems.

Carpal tunnel: Carpal tunnel syndrome is characterized by hand pain and recurrent numbness or "pins and needle" sensations in the thumb, index, middle finger and the lateral aspect of the ring finger. It may be triggered by repetitive use, like driving or keyboard typing. Diabetes or obesity increases risk of onset. Wearing a wrist cock- up splint is very effective. Surgery reserved for severe cases.

CTS and neuropathy: Carpal tunnel syndrome and neuropathy are not the same condition. Neuropathy tends to affect all nerves, carpal tunnel syndrome affects only the median nerve, which passes through your wrist. The areas they affect are dramatically different. It is possible that a person could have both conditions.
