Mostly treat symptom: Croup or laryngotracheobronchitis is a upper respiratory infection of viral origin and as such is normally self-limiting. A child with croup is generally treated for his symptoms, much like other upper respiratory infections. However, if the child displays severe symptoms, such as very difficult breathing, or cyanosis (blue complexion), then they should be examined by a doctor immediately.

No Cures: Croup is generally cauased by a viral infection.Thus antibiotics do not help.There are medicines that may minimize the symptoms.For these, call your pediatrician.
