Get physician advice: Low salt diet, weight loss and aerobic exercise all help hypertension. Most people also need drug therapy. The choice of drug(s) depends on patient characteristics like presence or absence of age, heart disease, diabetes, kidney damage, asthma/copd, osteoporosis and others. A physician will be able to evaluate these factors. Beta, angiotensin and calcium blockers all work, as do diuretics.
