Get a diagnosis : Chronic back pain in a middle-aged person is most likely due to an underlying musculoskeletal pathology. A long list of things can cause this problem which makes it important to consult your doctor to obtain a proper diagnosis. Regardless of the diagnosis, effective treatment is likely available. Simply treating your symptoms blindly with pain medications is not advised.
