A member asked:

Can you please explain why aids is no longer a terminal illness in the united states?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Because of HAART: Hiv/aids is no longer felt to be a terminal illness if detected early enough and if a person takes highly active antiretroviral therapy, or haart. People with HIV can now live close to a normal lifespan if they take care of themselves and continue haart, which will help to restore their damaged immune system. However, there are still a few people who die from hiv/aids if disease is too advanced.
