Impacted stool: It means that pt has severe constipation. This is common in elderly pts also in pts taking narcotics ( strong pain killers). Many medications contribute to it. Tx is to increase fluid intake, increase fiber or fiber supplements( fibercon) stool softeners , and 3xwk or if no bowel movement in 3 days. Digital disimpaction may be necessary if hard stool present in anus or rectum with or w/o enemas.

Obstipation: Obstipation occurs when the colon is full of stool or "impacted". Recommend you see your doctor as you will likely need a combination of medication and manual disimpaction.
