Ask your surgeon: This varies from doctor to doctor and also depends on the severity of the tear. It is generally accepted that initially you should avoid any active range of motion of the shoulder, while often passive range is allowed much sooner. You can move other parts of your arm including fingers, wrist, and elbow right away. Talk to your surgeon.

Follow: Your shoulder surgeon's instructions. I usually limit motion for 4 weeks.
