A member asked:

Are there any over-the-counter medications for thrush?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, but: Gentian violet is a purple dye that is available otc & occasionally used for oral thrush in infants. It is effective but messy & should be used in minimal amounts, painted on affected areas. It kills yeast by direct contact.Excess use has led to choking and respiratory distress. Older patients can swish it around in their mouth & spit out the excess.
