Treatments are oral tyrosine kinase inhibitors that target c-kit.

Briefly, cause is genetic, the "philadelphia" chromosome resulting from a translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22; symptoms are nonspecific including fatigue, weight loss, bleeding/bruising, night sweats, lack of appetite, prolonged fever, bone pain, etc.; treatment is chemotherapy plus gleevec, (imatinib) sometimes bone marrow transplant.
