Blood clot causes: 3 things cause clots: blood vessel injury, stasis, and hypercoagulability. The first refers to things like surgery, the second to slow blood flow due to immobility or compression on a blood vessel by things like a pregnant uterus, and the last to things that make the clotting system more active like birth control pills, hormone replacement, and hereditary problems that make the blood too thick.
