Indolent, persistent: Marginal zone lymphoma is a form of lymphoma that is of low aggressiveness and "indolent." it refers to the cell of origin of the tumor having come from the "marginal zone" of the lymph node, as opposed to "germinal center cell" or "activated b-cell type" cells which are subtypes of the more aggressive "large cell" lymphoma family. It is slower growing, but may be persistent and tough to "cure.".

See below...: It is important to distinguish between nodal mzl and extranodal mzl of malt type. Both are relatively low on the scale of aggressiveness. The overall 5-year survival for the first type is approximately 60-80% in adults and excellent in children. The second type is even less aggressive with very long remission and disease-free survival.
