Depends: Some ulcers are silent, without pain, found during medical assessment, and the time they have existed is unclear. Some people have a high pain threshold and the problems appear chronic (months) when diagnosed. Superficial ulcerations can occur in days. One third of people on some prescription arthritis drugs have evidence of ulceration if tested in 3 weeks.
