Topical steroids. : Topical steroids are typically prescribed to help decrease inflammation on the sore. However this is not a cure. Sometimes there are underlying causes that could be contributing. These could be ibd, celiac or gluten sensitivity, and vitamin deficiency. This should be checked out with your physician.

Not really: The sore is a virus which comes and goes and usually lasts seven to ten days. Sometimes ice helps reduce time. Meds like zovirax (acyclovir) help if take before they start. Otc Acyclovir creams can shorten the duration too.

OTC, DDS Mx's: The cause of canker sores (aphthous ulcers) is not well understood. They differ from traumatic sores & herpes sores (caused by a virus) .It is believed that the combination of local trauma & stress, & sometimes other medical conditions may contribute to their formation. It's mostly a waiting game as your body will heal them on its own. Many otc or prescription medications help it feel better.
