Discuss with PCP: If you're asking it likely means you have likely self diagnosed & are using some left over med from another illness or other source. This is not a good idea. You could be right, or wrong.Your problem may not require antibiotics & clear on it's own. Timing & duration of any treatment is best assessed by the professional who confirms the diagnosis & need for treatment.

Huh????????: Amoxil (amoxicillin) is the antibiotic of choice for treating ear infections caused by susceptible bacteria, but it may not be the best med for this ear infection if 1)the antibiotic has been used to treat an ear infection in the last three months 2)you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics.

What kind: There are a number of issues that can produce ear pain that require no abx, including tooth issues, fluid, neuritis, etc. You can certainly assume you have a middle ear infection and take 6+ yr old, out of date meds.It is unlikely to injure you,But the strength of the med is likely poor, and if you really need it,no problem. These sometimes self heal (unless its a different problem).
