Exacerbate symptoms: The goal with treatment of traumatic brain injury is to maintain normal volume status (euvolemia). A decrease in the volume status with dehydration can lead to decreased blood pressure. This may ultimately lead to decrease in blood flow to the brain. Thus the neurons are not getting as much nutrients. This may impede the recovery process thus leading to an exacerbation of symptoms.

Dry Concussion: Concussion is caused by trauma to the brain which causes the electrochemical function of the nerves to be impaired. Dehydration effects the electrochemical concentrations in the body. Therefore, dehydration can increase the severity of concussion symptoms and prolong recovery. If you have concerns seek the advice of your doctor.
