How long is it normal for a person be on blood thinners for a blood clot?

3-6 months/longer?: It depends on the cause of the clot. Most are on it for 3 months if have known cause. That may be extended to 6 months in some situations. If there is no provoking cause or a family history the time may be forever. You need to discuss this further with your own doctor.
