COPD, cough, cancer: The smoke and hundreds of other constituents that make up cigarettes damage your airways, the lining of your airways, and can destroy the tiny air sacs (alveoli) that help you get oxygen in your body and co2 out. This leads to chronic bronchitis and emphysema (these two diseases are lumped under the category of copd). Finally, smoking greatly increases your risk of lung cancer.

Yes.: Technically speaking, not all smokers will get lung cancer as there may be genetic predispositions to such, but smoking damages all lungs - i.e. emphysema/COPD. And that damage is not reversible.

Yes.: Smoking is harmful to the lungs. Smoking can lead to the development of malignancies (lung cancer). Smoking can cause decrease in elasticity / flexibility of lungs resulting in less endurance and over time leading to emphysema. Smoking can worsen or cause hypersensitivity / asthma. There are more costs to smoking that just the cost of buying cigarettes.

Yes.: While not every smoker will get lung cancer, the risk of emphysema is universal.

Very: The lungs lose elasticity over time and smoking greatly speeds this. If you want to enjoy your old age, quit now if you possibly can. The risk of cancer is very real and cancer is even worse than most people have been told. Why make some filthy tobacco company ceo rich? You're smart enough to have found healthtap -- now take charge and do whatever you can to cut down or cease altogether.
