A member asked:

If my kid has been running fever since friday janurary 27th and hasnt dropped it does that rule out it just being a viral infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not neccessarily: Viral infections can last 7-10 days, and cause fevers. Even the flu is a virus, and can cause fevers for 2 weeks! however, typically the fevers respond to tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin and are not over 103-104. If you child is very young (<2 yo), fevers don't respond to medicine, or if you are worried about anything else, it would be wise to get them checked to be sure.
