Transplant?: While a kidney transplant may not be available for a range of different reasons, it often offers a person the best chance of a longer and healthier life. If a person is heading towards dialysis, it is very reasonable to ask the doctor about the possibility of transplant - there are a variety of preparations. Receiving a kidney from a related living donor is the best of all possible options.
