Anemia and ESRD: This patient must be on dialysis. At his dialysis center, he should be receiving Epogen (epoetin alfa) to increase the hb level. There are some people that have a problem with EPO and do not raise their hb level, due to anti-epo antibodies and is rare. Other causes of no increase of hb levels are blood loss from the GI tract, hemolysis and high parathyroid hormone levels. Ask the patient's nephrologist about it.
