Ultrasound and labs: Ectopic pregnancies are extremely dangerous. If a woman is pregnant and there is any sign of an ectopic (pain, abnormal first trimester bleeding) then they need immediate evaluation. This is usually evaluated with repeat HCG levels and ultrasound. Once an ectopic ruptures it is a medical emergency. If there is concern about a possible ectopic, your ob/gyn should be contacted immediately!
