A member asked:

What kind of cancer would be detected by a normal check-up type of blood work without specifically looking for one?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prostate, maybe: We pick up cancer on history, physical exam, and evidence-based screening. Whether the prostate screening blood test does more harm or good is today's hot question. The other routine labs aren't intended to spot any of the common cancers, and won't until they're far along. Blood screening with tumor markers has been a disappointment, usually more harm than good.
