A member asked:

Which medication do you suggest for a 6 yr old boy diagnosed with adhd?

None: "there must be clear evidence of clinical significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational functioning." a 6 year old boy can't show significant academic impairment (at least 2 years below grade level) and he doesn't have an occupation. If he is having trouble in the classroom get him out of that environment.

If your son's ADHD : Was diagnosed accurately by dsm-iv-tr criteria, optimal treatment= medication management, behavioral therapy & environmental manipulations at home & school (section 504). Chadd.Org has excellent information. Work with his doctor to initiate a trial of meds, usually a stimulant, titrating from a low starting dose up to an optimal dose. Learning disabilities co-occur in ~ 35% of kids with adhd.
