1 gram, single dose: A single dose of 1 g (1000 mg) by mouth. Azithromycin is very long lasting: a single dose gives 7-10 days of effective antibiotic in the system. However, azithromycin fails to cure chlamydia up to 5% of the time (1 in 20 patients), even more if the rectum is infected. STD experts are moving toward a preference fo doxycycline (100 gm twice daily) in people who will remember to take all doses.
