Different organs: During ovulation, an egg is released from your ovary and may not cause any feeling at all. During menses, your uterus, which is really a muscular organ, literally contracts to force out the blood that accumulates within.

Cramps: When you have your period, your uterine muscles contract. This can be uncomfortable. When you ovulate, no muscle contraction occurs as the egg is released. While some woman experience discomfort during ovulation, it is much less common.
