First make sure that the symptoms you were having before effexor, (venlafaxine) are stable. Common discontinuation symptoms include dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, sweating, nausea, insomnia, tremor, confusion, nightmares, and vertigo. "brain zaps" are electric shock-like sensations in the head.
