Effexor (venlafaxine) withdrawal: If you've been on Effexor (venlafaxine) for that long, you need to work with your physician on a tapering schedule. First make sure that the symptoms you were having before effexor, (venlafaxine) are stable. Common discontinuation symptoms include dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, sweating, nausea, insomnia, tremor, confusion, nightmares, and vertigo. "brain zaps" are electric shock-like sensations in the head.
