I just had an appendectomy this week . by the time i got into surgery it was ruptured . my abdomen is very swolen. how long until back to normal?

Hopefully, ~2 weeks: With ruptured appendicitis, infection has spread from your appendix to the surrounding area if not throughout your belly. You have an ileus, or sluggish bowel function, for a couple to several days. You need to be on broad-spectrum antibiotics for several days. The chances of complication (e.g., abscess, bowel obstruction) are significant. Best case scenario -- back to normal in a couple of weeks.
