They are related.: The WBC is the total number of white cells, of which neutrophils are only one kind. The differential count gives percentages of each kind of wbc. So, 37% of 3100 total wbcs are neutrophils. 37% of 3100 is 1147, which is the absolute count. Normal is >1500. Infection risk begins with wbc.
