Maybe: More importantly is the food item in question a good part of a healthly diet. Most of us understand that sweets are not good for us. In fact there are many foods that do not taste sweet that are just as bad. White potatoe, white flour, corn and white rice are all interpreted by the body the same as sugar.

In general, yes: Just remember that starches become sugar in the body so you have to limit carbohydrates in general.
