Your neurologist is looking for a possible brain abnormality that is causing the physical exam findings you describe. These findings would not be typical for a migraine headache so it is important to be sure there is no other brain abnormality that would cause these findings. So, the MRI to visualize the brain would be important. Be sure to follow up with the neurologist once the MRI is done.

Since nystagmus can be secondary to abnormal brainstem/ cerebellar connection pathology, or even a problem from the inner ear, it is prudent to exclude the presence of a new co-morbidity. It would be unusual for Basilar Migraine to be an issue at age 34 yrs. Your question should also be posed to your current doctors, as they will possess more accurate up-to-date information.
