As mentioned, MRI will not assess refractive visual issues, and would not be a valuable test to assess retinal problems. However, it is commonly useful to assess the optic nerve, chiasm, and presence of lesions along the course of the visual radiations. It would be very useful in cases of visual loss with a normal ocular exam.
