I'm hsv-positive. how common is herpes infection to progress into serious complications like herpetic encephalitis? and what can i possibly do to ultimately avoid it (and also avoid recurrence outbreaks). so far i have no outbreak!!?

Most herpes encephalitis occurs during initial HSV infection. If "HSV-positive" means blood test, you are at very low risk for encephalitis. For which type did you test positive? Encephalitis occurs only with HSV1. And possibly you don't have HSV at all. The blood tests are far from perfect, often with false positive or false negative results. Maybe post a new question with detailed test results.
