A member asked:

Why latching problem occurs while breastfeeding in healthy child and mother?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There are lots of reasons for latching problems. Factors such as prematurity, jaundice, infection, heart disease, a mother's medicines and many others can affect a baby's ability to stay alert or coordinate the suck-swallow-breathe actions. Other mechanical issues that may play a role include variation in the anatomy of the child's lips and palate.
