Dull: An ear drum shines a reflection that we call a cone of light when it is healthy and has no fluid or pus or blood behind it. If an ear drum is dull, the cone of light is, likely, diminished or not noted and there could be an infection, pressure changes, or some fluid behind the ear drum.
