A member asked:

If someone developed hsv-2, but of the mouth, might it present 10 days later as a small cold sore? or is that more likely just a regular hsv-1 cold sore? for the record, i gave brief, 10 second oral sex to another male of unknown status 10 days ago?

Dr. Jay Park answered

The clinical presentations of Herpes simplex 1 & 2 are basically same, and the incubation period ranges from 2 days to 2 weeks. Given the probable exposure history, oral HSV2 is likely to have transmitted from genital lesion.
