I am 48 and just had gallbladder removal. its not quite 48 hours post procedure but i have been having high blood pressure and i didnt have it before. my last bp was 154/101. i have taken a blood pressure medication an hour ago. what is going on?

There are a wide range of possibilities, from pain to anxiety to a med side effect. There are many different medicines that can be given anesthesia-wise and it is possible you are reacting to one of the medicines. If that is the case, your elevated blood pressure will likely be short-lived. If you are having pain or anxiety, this can be treated. Good luck!

I agree with Dr.F that your hypertension will be shortlived since you didn't have it before surgery. Fluid retention from IV fluids,release of stress hormones raising BP& heart rate, increase in vascular resistance secondary to some anesthetics are some causes of new onset postop hypertension which can be controlled by appropriate medications.
