A member asked:

Could xanax cause hypoglycemia? and could a diabetic patient take xanax?

Hypoglycemia is not a listed potential side effect of this drug nor is there a reason to expect it to be. Hypoglycemia occurs when there is inadequate glycose circulating in the blood. That can be from under production or the transfer of available glucose from the blood to the tissues by insulin action.

Xanax is not known to cause hypoglycemia directly. However, Xanax may cause a change in appetite (more appetite in some people, less than others), which could affect blood sugar levels. The presence of diabetes itself is not a reason to avoid Xanax.
