Resin restorations : Are very versatile restorations and more economical, hence used more. The preparatory phase might appear to be the same for both resin and ceramic restorations, but they are indeed quite different. Both are technique sensitive in their own way, but have different applications. Hope this helps and thanks for the question.

Varies: Some of the etching principles may be the same as well as the bonding. Porcelain would require cement for retention while the resin attaches to the bond. Resin is popular because they are fast to do and the cost is much lower. The only direct porcelain that i know of is "one hour lumineers" by denmat, which is prefabricated and takes longer than an hour because the porcelain has to be retrofitted.

Resin fillings: These are cheaper than the porcelain restorations mainly because no lab fees are involved. Porcelain can look more "lifelike" but resins can have a great esthetic look as well. Placement time for resins are usually shorter as well.
