A member asked:

If the meniscus is not attached to the bone it can be extruded what does this mean? what are the symptoms of having this? how is this fixed? help

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Early Arthritis: Extruded meniscii are generally the result of accompanying arthritic changes on that side of the joint, as the joint narrows due to loss of joint cartilage the meniscus is pushed out. One should be cautious about arthroscopic surgery as it can often accelerate the progress of arthritis. Usually pt or injections will be helpful.
