A member asked:

I having my period now every 3 to 6 months, i'm in perimenopause, this time i'm having very heavy bleeding compared to other periods, how much blood is too much blood. i'm starting to freak out, i'm on my third day and still with heavy flow. is it ok?

These irregular cycles are usually from failure to release an egg, which otherwise triggers the hormone that leads to menses. In the interim, estrogen is building more tissue in the womb that will eventually break down in a greater volume/duration of menstrual flow. You should be on an iron supplement & if not having symptoms of anemia its likely fine. Please discuss this with your doc.
