A member asked:

My mother (67) has high blood pressure and takes atenolol daily as prescribed by doctor. last days her blood pressure is increasing significantly. she drank horsetail tea and now she is very tired and blood pressure 108/65. can these both be mixed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I'm not a fan of beta blockers as first line medication for hypertension unless the patient tends to have coronary artery disease or overactive sympathetic nervous system with rapid heart rate, etc. Fatigue is a big issue for some people on beta blockers like atenolol. The options are either reducing the dose or weaning off atenolol & starting an ACE inhibitor,an ARB or calcium channel blocker
