Infection: Children do not tolerate infections very well at a young age. More than likely it is a decayed tooth that is abscessed but only a dental x-ray will reveal the cause. Don't hesitate, see a dentist asap.

Get him to MD now: Although it might be something else, swelling usually results from infections. If left untreated, infections can spread and cause very serious complications. Don't take a chance, have him seen by a dentist immediately. The dentist should be able to determine the cause of the swelling and can refer him to a physician if it is not a dental problem.
