A member asked:

Good evening doctors. are you familiar with wegovy or ozempic for weight loss? is either one or both safe? are they only available as an injection, and not orally?

Oral forms of semaglutides like Wegovy and Ozempic are not yet available, but both have been shown to effect weight loss combined with more attention to diet and exercise. The complications of an overweight condition are serious long term, and avoidance of diabetes (type two) is a worthwhile untertaking.

Weight loss is a beneficial effect by people who take either form (they’re both brand names for the drug semaglutide). They are safe for most people, although they should be used with caution or avoided in some people (ask another question for details). Semaglutide is available in an oral form called Rybelsus, although some literature suggests the injections are more effective for weight loss.
